Abortion

Abortion is the medical termination of a pregnancy. Although abortion is against the law in Belize, many women choose to have the procedure done illegally. Many of these abortions are provided in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, causing severe medical problems, like infertility or even death. One of the most common reasons for admissions to the public health facilities among teen girls is complications arising from illegal abortions. Remember that in Belize under some circumstances, abortions are legally allowed to save the life of the woman and to preserve the physical and mental health of the woman.
